The Expo Central China to Be a Driver for the Economic Growth of Central China

Since the beginning of the month, reports concerning the Expo Central China (ECC) have become a focus for the media in Hubei. It was known from Hubei Industrial & Commerce Federation (HICF) that for the success of the ECC, it had undertaken main investment solicitation tasks, several times more than that of other provincial departments. As reported, 26 enterprises of Chinese Top 500 have decided to attend the ECC.

Zhao Xiaoyong, chairman of HICF, introduced that some large state-owned enterprises, including China Railway Construction, Guangdong Yudean Group, COSCO Group and CHINALCO had expressed their intentions to join. In addition, present would be many entrepreneurs of domestic private enterprises, such as Zong Qinghou, president of Wahaha, Zhen Yuanbao, president of People Ele. Appliance Group, Lou Guoqiang, president of Ningbo Jintian Copper and Jin Huiming, president of Shanghai DAhua Group.

To take advantage of the ECC to attract investment, the HICF has called in scores of chambers of commerce both in and out of the province to discuss issues on solicitation, matchmaking and support services. According to Li Huaan, secretary-general of Hubei-based Guangdong Chamber of Commerce, contracted projects by Guangdong-based enterprises in this ECC were expected to exceed RMB7b.

It was known that there were new activities in the ECC, such as “Central Area Forum” and “Mayor Forum on Sustained Urban Development” with the theme as “Taking Transferred Industries and Promoting the Rise of Central China”. The organizing committee of the ECC noted that the 3rd ECC held near the 30th anniversary of the Reform and Opening-up bore more profound significance, which was a comprehensive show on achievements of central area by the 30 years and a critical strategy for furtherance of the reform and opening-up.
